Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai was a great altruist who dedicated his entire life to the upliftment of the Nair community and society. He was a social reformer and a known freedom fighter. He was the person who worked hard for the formation of Nair Service Society (NSS). He could organize the "nair" community under the NSS. It was on 31 October 1914, he established the NSS (Nair Service Society). He tried to fight against many unwanted rules in that era based on cast and untouchability. Considering his contribution to the "nair" community and to the entire society, the President of India honored him with the title “Bharatha Kesari” in 1959. (“Bharatha Kesari” means 'Lion of India'). He was also given “Padmabhushan” award by the Government of India, in 1966.
This book is written by Dr. N. Sumathykutty Amma, who is the granddaughter of Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai. She is a teacher by profession and has attained high educational qualifications. She has written this book in a very simple and understanding language making it more attractive. This book is a worth reading for those who wish to know the history of Kerala as well as the biography of the great philanthropist, Padmabhushan- Bharatha Kesari- Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai.
